This project in Moonee Ponds reimagines the entry garden of a Victorian-style terrace, creating a composition that balances structure, elegance, and a hint of whimsy. The design celebrates the home’s heritage while introducing contemporary touches that enrich the sense of arrival.
A feature pond, inspired by the sculptural clarity of Carlo Scarpa, forms the central focus, with water movement adding subtle sound and reflective light to the space. Structured greenery frames the composition, softened by playful accents of Gaura, alongside Silver Birch and Crepe Myrtle that introduce height, texture, and seasonal interest.
Hewn granite steps lead to a classically tiled porch, while a wrought-iron fence and cobbled car bay reference traditional craftsmanship, anchoring the design in the home’s period context. Every element from planting to paving is composed to enhance the layering of form and texture, guiding the eye toward the front door and creating a welcoming, refined entrance.
The result is a garden that feels timeless and considered, an intimate outdoor space that complements the architecture while providing a distinctive sense of place.
