ESSENDON II
The garden for this project in Essendon responds to a heritage façade, balancing minimal formality with subtle gestures of layering and softness. The front garden is anchored by an existing Liquidambar tree, while a long steel reflection pond frames the entrance, inviting visitors to pause before stepping across to the home. Bluestone paving and carefully placed sculpture provide a quiet dialogue with the property’s heritage, linking past and present. A central courtyard divides the original dwelling from the modern addition, integrating seating and a productive garden that allows natural light to penetrate the interior. At the rear, clean lines define the pool and alfresco areas, with a planted isolation moat and minimal hedging enhancing sightlines and privacy. The overall palette is restrained, emphasizing simplicity, calm, and clarity of form, creating a contemporary garden that complements the architecture while maintaining a subtle, enduring elegance.
