This Malvern project centres on the careful reworking of a compact rear garden, transforming it into a refined setting for outdoor living and entertaining. The design prioritises clarity of form and intimacy of scale, creating a series of connected spaces that feel deliberate and resolved.
At the heart of the rear garden is a circular spa, with concentric paving radiating outward to define the surrounding entertaining areas. This geometry establishes a strong visual focus while subtly organising movement through the space. A planted moat forms a soft isolation barrier around the spa, introducing privacy and enclosure without relying on hard edges or visual separation.
A floating concrete step transitions down from the dwelling into the garden, doubling as informal seating and encouraging relaxed use of the space. Beyond, a timber arbour spans the decked dining area, providing structure, shade, and a sense of containment. A new batten screen lines the perimeter, offering privacy while allowing light and air to filter through the garden.
The front garden was approached as a sensitive refurbishment, retaining and celebrating existing elements including mature trees and a carved stone bird bath. These features are complemented by layered planting to refresh the space while preserving its established character.
Modest in scale yet rich in detail, the garden demonstrates how considered design can elevate everyday outdoor spaces, balancing functionality, atmosphere, and a strong connection to the dwelling.
